Open Source

Giving Back

We build in the open because someone built for us first.

At 23blocks we believe the best technology is shared. Our open source projects are our way of contributing to the developer community that shaped us.

Our Philosophy

Give Before You Get

The idea of "give first" is deeply rooted in the startup ecosystem. Brad Feld, co-founder of Techstars and one of the most influential voices in the startup world, has long championed the philosophy that the strongest communities are built by people who give without expecting anything in return.

At 23blocks, we grew up in that ethos. We were mentored by people who gave their time, their code, and their knowledge freely. The Techstars community taught us that sharing isn't a weakness in business. It's a multiplier.

That's why we open source our most ambitious projects. Not because we have to. Because it's the right thing to do.

Give before you get. It's the single most powerful thing you can do in a startup community.

Our Roots

Shaped by the Techstars Community

The Techstars network is built on a simple principle: entrepreneurs helping entrepreneurs. That culture of generosity and mentorship shaped how we think about building software and growing a company.

Mentorship-Driven

We learned from mentors who gave freely. Now we pay it forward through open source code, documentation, and community support.

Community First

The Techstars philosophy taught us that strong ecosystems are built by contributors, not competitors. We share because sharing makes everyone stronger.

Long-Term Thinking

We don't open source for marketing. We do it because the best infrastructure should be accessible to every developer, everywhere.

What We Share

Why We Open Source

Three reasons we believe sharing code makes the entire ecosystem stronger.

01

Transparency Builds Trust

When developers can read our code, they can trust our decisions. Open source means no black boxes, no hidden surprises. You see exactly what you're building on.

02

Collaboration Accelerates Innovation

The best ideas come from unexpected places. By opening our code, we invite contributions from developers worldwide who bring perspectives we never considered.

03

Rising Tide Lifts All Boats

When infrastructure is freely available, more developers can build more products. More products mean a healthier ecosystem. A healthier ecosystem benefits everyone.
